The final countdown

In exactly seven hours we'll be on a plane to San Diego. It's hard to believe that after all this planning, the time has actually come for us to leave on our Great Adventure. We had a great send-off Sunday, and we can't thank our families and friends enough for all the generosity and thoughtfulness they've shown during our preparation.

The last day and a half was spent finalizing our gear and supplies. Here are our worldly possessions for the next five months:

 Our final totals for base weight (everything excluding food and water) are 22 lb. for Csilla and 18 lb. for Nolan. These are slightly over our goal of 15 (mine being mostly clothes, for fear of being cold), but we'll be able to figure out our systems and what we really need or don't need during our first week or two.

We'll spend tomorrow with some trail angels named Scout and Frodo in San Diego, where we'll final-finalize everything one last time. We head to the trail before sunrise Thursday morning. For future pictures, check out Nolan's flickr page .
