Anything you can do I can do better

Yet another exciting side benefit of hiking: CRAFTS! Making some portion of your gear can save greatly on cost and potentially weight, plus it makes you feel pretty sweet. Nolan and I talked about making a variety of our own gear, from a tarp-tent (which we ditched in favor of a real tent) to some clothing items to stoves. Since Nolan has experience in this area and is a Renaissance Man who can make something out of anything, most of the craftsmanship will be up to him. I hope to learn, though. Below are some pictures telling the story of the transformation of Heineken cans and bicycle spokes to an alcohol stove.
